Damp gauze over the extraction site should be kept in place by firmly biting down for two hours after surgery. You will want to change the damp gauze every 30 minutes until the bleeding has stopped. After the bleeding has stopped, discontinue biting down on gauze as the blood clot has stabilized. If the bleeding continues for a few hours after your procedure, bite on a moistened black tea bag for 30 minutes. The tannic acid in black tea helps aid in the clotting process by constricting blood vessels. If bleeding does not subside, call our office for further instructions.
